About the school
Long Sutton C of E (VA) Primary School is a four class rural primary school in South Somerset. We are a Church of England Primary School that believes that all the school community should ‘Learn to love and love to learn’ and this vision is central to all we do. We have mixed age classes and pride ourselves on being a small school that serves our local community and fosters caring relationships across the school, with a strong family ethos. We pride ourselves on the warm welcome we give and the positive relationships we build with each family. We have a wide range of facilities including large school hall, beautiful grounds which include a swimming pool, a big school field, 2 playgrounds and a wild garden area. There is a lift and ramps to enable wheelchair access to all areas.
The school has very close links with the local community and, in particular, the village church. We have bi-weekly visits from local church members as well as church services to celebrate key times within the church calendar and our school year. We also have many community members who volunteer in school with reading, crafts, welly walks among other things. Our school is fully accessible and inclusive for all children.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff, volunteers, visitors and outside agencies to share this commitment and to follow the school policy and procedures (SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION POLICY 2024-25
Our classes are:
Cygnet Class – Reception/Y1 – Mrs Manzi
Kingfisher Class – Y2/Y3- Mrs Casalis/Mrs Brading
Kite Class – Y5/Y5 – Mrs Pengelly
Harrier Class – Y5/Y6 – Mrs Janas
We are lucky to have our own pre-school on site, Toy Box. This means that the pre-school staff work very closely with the Reception teacher to support the learning and development needs of young children in our community and making a very smooth transition in the school.
Admissions
Admissions for Reception children are organised by Somerset County Council and must be applied for via their website. Please contact the school office (01458 241434) to book an appointment to visit. We do not run an open day as we prefer to take parents round the school personally to give time for questions and to get to know us, as we know choosing a school is such an important choice for you.
In Year admissions – If you wish to move school during the year or after your child has started in Reception you need to apply for a place via the school. An application form can be found within the policy below. Before completing this, please book an appointment to visit the school and meet staff.
The school serves the catchments areas of Long Sutton, Long Load, Knole, Pibsbury, Upton and Muchelney. The Governors happily consider out of zone admissions. Should you wish to visit the school, we would be delighted to show you around. Please contact the school office on 01458 241434.
